Queer Youth Approval Board

Our Mental Health Assistance Program (MHAP) is informed by a group of youth leaders called the Queer Youth Approval Board (QYAB). QYAB youth members provide direct input that shapes and informs MHAP. They vet and/or train the therapists we work with and are directly involved in program development. The QYAB centers around three core values: education of self and others, intersectionality, and self-determination. The unique perspectives, insights, and lived experiences shared by QYAB leaders offer WAF and MHAP clinicians valuable insights into the unique stressors, stigmas, and discrimination that LGBTQ+ youth face. QYAB members’ engagement in developing and facilitating trainings for providers also creates opportunities for clinicians to engage in open dialogue with LGBTQ+ youth, fostering mutual understanding and empathy.

Who can apply? LGBTQI+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer/questioning, intersex, etc.) and ally youth up to the age of 24 with an interest in mental health reform and education.

If you are under the age of 15, please have your parent/guardian fill out this permission form after applying.
