Group Therapy

We Are Family offers rotating, affirming therapeutic groups — such as art therapy, horticultural therapy, and other healing-centered models — designed specifically for LGBTQ+ youth and young adults. These groups evolve throughout the year in response to emerging youth needs, providing safe, creative spaces for processing, connection, and growth. Below are our current offerings:

Art Therapy

Examples of Art Therapy Activities:

  • Positive Affirmation Mandalas

  • Formulating past, present, future

  • Expressing emotions using colors

  • Exploring identities

  • Sharing the hard emotions and fears

We offer an art therapy group in partnership with MUSC’s Arts in Healing Program! Groups are run by licensed art therapists from the Medical University of South Carolina.

Groups are biweekly (Tuesdays from 6-7:30pm) and are free and open to middle and high school aged youth. These groups do not require any previous art experience or art skills, all you need to do is bring yourself and be open to engaging in our activities!

Email our Director of Mental Health Programs at chandlerm@waf.org for sign up information. The sessions have limited seats and are first come, first served.
